Spoken INK November and December readings

Upcoming for Spoken INK: Daniela Elza, Robin Susanto and Bryant Ross

On Tuesday, November 17th, at 8:00 p.m., poets Daniela Elza and Robin Susanto are Spoken INK’s featured readers at the James Street Café. An open mic follows – this month’s topic is Into the Night Sky.

Daniela Elza is currently a doctoral student in Philosophy of Education at SFU. Having lived on three continents and crossed numerous geographic borders, she attempts to bridge gaps between the heart and the mind. This year her work appeared in Verse Map of Vancouver, Press 1, Vallum, 4poets (Mother Tongue Publishing, 2009), Poetic Inquiry (SensePublishers, 2009) and is forthcoming in educational insights, Matrix, The Trumpeter, The New Orphic Review as well as the anthology Mutanabbi Street Starts Here (Red Hen Press, 2009). She lives with her family in Vancouver.

Robin Susanto was born on the Strait of Malacca in Indonesia. He immigrated to Canada at the age of 16 — first to Ottawa, then Nova Scotia where he began his studies in Mathematics before settling in Vancouver. In addition to working as a teacher, he is also a translator and writer of fiction and poetry. His writing has been published in Quills, The New Quarterly, and Contemporary Verse II. As a rule, he does not trust birds.


Mark Tuesday, December 15th down in your diary to hear storyteller Bryant Ross at the James Street Café, 8:00 p.m. Our open mic topic for December will be Thresholds.

For the last three years Bryant Ross has been telling stories in various venues round Vancouver, mostly at the "Thundering Word" open mic and Vancouver Story Slam, but has also appeared twice in the "In the House" and once in the "Under the Volcano" festivals. Bryant is a 28 year veteran of the Langley Fire Department and lives in Langley with his wife, three kids and two hound dogs.

Spoken INK is the open mic/reading series brought to you by the Burnaby Writers’ Society every third Tuesday (September to June) at the James Street Café, just one short block east of Boundary Road on Canada Way at Smith (NE corner) in Burnaby. Open mic sign-up time is 7:30 p.m.
