Vancouver Writers Fest Writing Contests

The 18th Annual Poetry and Short Story Contest is open to writers around the world. Past winners include authors featured at the 2016 Vancouver Writers Fest and other accomplished writers of a wide variety of backgrounds. Entries are judged by established BC writers.
This year, we are excited to offer the following prizes for finalists:

* 1st prize - Fiction: Free tuition for an online fiction writing course offered by UBC Creative Writing + $300 cash prize + publication in subTerrain magazine and at writersfest.bc.ca
* 1st prize - Poetry: $500 cash prize + publication
* 2nd prize - $350 cash prize + publication (in each category)

Writers can learn more and submit their entries at writersfest.bc.ca/writingcontest. Online submissions only. The contest closes on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at 5pm.

The Spreading the Word Youth Writing Contest is open to all youth in grades 8-12 in British Columbia. Young writers can submit stories or poems on any topic they choose. Entries are judged by established BC young adult and children's authors.
The rewards:
* 1st Prize: $300 + publication in The Claremont Review and at writersfest.bc.ca (in each category)
* 2nd Prize: $200 + publication (in each category)
